Photo journalist James Foley who will be remembered for years because He was murdered by beheading by ISIS terrorists, Like John the Baptist. Foley was a devout Christian and faithful Catholic. (1973 - 2014)
Here we are two thousand plus years after John the Baptist was beheaded and Jesus was crucified, yet the very same mind set still exists around Israel today.
27. So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John's head. The man went, beheaded John in the prison, 28. and brought back his head on a platter. He presented it to the girl, and she gave it to her mother. 29. On hearing of this, John's disciples came and took his body and laid it in a tomb. (Mark 6:27) New International Version®, NIV®¹
I have pondered things that happen in life and wondered why, have you?
As a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and ministering to the sad, lonely and hurting, almost always those still living after a tragedy in life have asked; "why?" The most often statement from non-believers is "why" should I trust, much less believe in a supreme being that allows such horror, starvation or pain!
When Jesus got word that Lazarus had died, St. John in his Gospel simply wrote "Jesus Wept." (John 11:35) Was it because his friend Lazarus had scrummed to a sickness . . . or was it that Jesus knew that He would call Lazarus back into this world of sorrow and woe.
While in the garden of Gethsemane after the "last supper" and before the betrayal, as Jesus prayed "if this cup" in such an earnest manner that it is recorded His sweat fell like "great" drops of blood.
"And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." Luke 22:44 (KJV)
"Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted." Norman Vincent Peal and Robert Schuler called these the "Be-Happy attitudes. Matt. 5:4
I remember useing the following while with those in grief;
"two words might help us understand the whole process of grieving a little better. Grief is the noun or the name of the grieving process. Mourning is the verb or the act of expressing or experiencing our grief. We can be in grief without ever allowing ourselves to actually mourn." Don't Take My Grief Away: Book by Doug Manning
We learn here that Jesus "mourned!" He said when you mourn "you will be comforted! Jesus is called "teacher" and this may have all happened that the Disciples, all the others that were watching all these things to see and learn that grief and sorrow happen and our response to it should be just like Jesus!
Lets pray for Jame Foley's family while they mourn.
O Lord God, please remember James Foley family and please strengthen them as they mourn.
As you promised, comfort them that mourn James' horrable death.
Make our prayers powerful and efective.
For this cause we bow our knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory.
